Weiss, Silvius Leopold ( 1686-1750 Germany)
Born in Grottkau in 1686. Weiss was the son of Johann Jacob Weiss who was a lutenist. He also lived in Rome and Dresden, where he died. He was one of the most technically accomplished lutenists of his day, and of the greatest lute composers. Later in his life, Weiss became a friend of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach and met J.S. Bach through him. He composed about 600 pieces for the lute.
