Sor, Fernando (1778-1839 Spain-France)
Fernando Sor was born in Barcelona in 1778. During his life he was dedicated to Mozart’s music. He was very talented in music since he was very young. His father had him start music lessons with the violin and the cello. After he gained a good experience in music he started learning the guitar. He moved to France and became very famous as a guitar performer and teacher. Sor and Aguado were very good friends and Sor’s “Les deux amis” op. 38 was composed for his friend. I
In 1809 he moved to London, where he gave many concerts. In 1823 he moved to Moscow with his wife, Gulien-Sor. As a musician and composer, Sor made an impressive impact to Russian friends of music, as B.Volman states in his book “The Guitar in Russia”. He came back to Paris with health problems. His pecuniary problems as well as the death of his beloved 10 years old daughter lead the last years of his life to a great unhappiness. He died in Paris, on 8 July 1839.
