Palmer, Paul R (b. 1946, Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh)
Growing up near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Paul first played guitar in 1964 when he was 17. He participated in the folk-singing era, playing an arch-top f-hole steel string with the Dav-Ed Paul Trio. He soon traded the steel-string for a 1960 Framus classical model and began studying performance manuals and etudes. From 1979 through the present, he has owned a Yamaha G-235. In 2006 he bought his present concert guitar, a 2001 Picado Model 62.
He enjoys Baroque music and has transcribed many Bach keyboard works. His classical transcriptions also include rags by Scott Joplin and Joseph Lamb, as well as works by Grieg, Weiss, Bizet, Mozart and others. He also arranges popular songs from the 20's and 30's. His original works range from etudes through characteristic pieces to guitar rags.
He is currently studying South American guitar music with composer-performer-teacher Chad Becks in Pittsburgh. With Michael Frazier, he is part of the Frazier-Palmer Duo, performing in and around Pittsburgh. He maintains the free-scores web site http://mysite.verizon.net/vzevuty6/paulsfreeguitarscores/.
