Mudarra, Alonso de (1508-1580 Spain)
Alonso de Mudarra was born in 1508 (the place of his birth is not recorded). He grew up in Guadalajara, where he received his first musical training. Mudarra was a great composer and vihuelist (the Spanish variety of the lute). In 1546 he became a priest in Seville, where he stayed for the rest of his life. While at the cathedral of Seville, he directed all of the musical activities. . Mudarra died in Seville, and his sizable fortune was distributed to the poor of the city according to his will.
