Milan, Luis ( 1500-1561 Spain)
Born ca. 1500 in Valencia, Luis Milan was a Spanish renaissance composer, vihuelist (the Spanish variety of the lute) and composer. In 1536 he published what was to be his most important book, Libro de musica de vihuela de mano intitulado El maestro, which was dedicated to King John III of Portugal. The book is the first collection of vihuela music in history. Mila is noted as the first composer to provide tempo indications in his music.
