Dionisio Aguado

Aguado y Garcia, Dionisio (1784-1849 Spain)

Aguado was born in Madrit into a religious family and studied with Miguel Garcia. He was a good friend with Fernando Sor, when he visited Paris, in 1825. Sor's composition "Les Deux Amis" ("The Two Friends") was about this friendship: one part is marked "Sor" and the other "Aguado."
Aguado has composed numerous of pieces and guitar methods, some of which you can find in this website. His studies were often considered quite difficult and beyond the average guitarist.  He used to play with great speed more suited to the "earthy" sounds of flamenco. Contrary to Fernando Sor, who used the skin and nails of his right hand and played slower but in a more "beautiful" tone, Aguado used only the nails of his right hand to produce a more clear sound and dynamics.
Aguado returned home to Madrid in 1838 and died there aged 65.
