Albeniz, Isaac Manuel F (1860-1909 Spain)
Isaac Manuel Francisco Albeniz was born on May 29, 1860 in Camprodon. At the age of eight his family moved to Madrid where Isaac began studying at the Escuela Nacional de Musica y Declamacion (now the Royal Conservatory of Music). He travelled a lot and his ability on the piano was impressive. He studied piano with Louis Maas and composition with Salomon Jadassohn, both of whom were students of Liszt.
At the age of twenty, Albeniz left for Budapest, where he studied with Liszt. But there are conflicts upon this issue, since there are sources that support that Albeniz met Liszt only once and he never studied with him. During the years 1889-92 he toured in Great Britain, Germany, Austria, Belgium, and France, where he gave several recitals. He composed a lot of pieces, some of which you can find in this website.
He died in Cambo-les-Bains in the French Pyrenees, on May 18, 1909.
